General Questions

What types of accounting roles are available at Knight?

A variety of roles in Financial Services can become available ranging from Graduate and Administration roles to qualified Tax Accountants (Business Services & Advisory), Financial Accountants, Associates and Financial Planners.

For Administration roles, no formal qualifications are necessary. Graduates and Accountants should have a degree in Commerce/Business and experienced Accountants should have completed or be working towards their CA/CPA. A related degree and completion of a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning is required for Financial Advisor roles with many of our Associates currently working towards this.

We support our staff to continually develop themselves by paying fees of related courses (such as CA, CPA, FinDip etc.) and providing 15 days of study leave per approved course. We also have a range of technical and soft skill training opportunities for staff in different roles and at different levels. Our Managers are passionate about mentoring our future leaders and we believe there is always more to learn as we Grow Together and with our stakeholders.

We work with a range of clients in all industries including agriculture, retail, mining, medicine, construction and hospitality. Our clients can be individuals (including high net worth), small mum-and-dad style businesses or large corporations. We deal with complicated structures and work together to get the best possible outcome for our clients. We are Passionate about Delivering Quality and this is why so many of our clients span generations.

Work Environment and Culture

What is the work culture like at Knight?

We have positive and open culture where everyone is encouraged to Get Involved and contribute. We are proud to be diverse and enjoy spending time together at social functions as well as in the office. We understand not everyone’s life demands look the same so we offer flexible working arrangements to assist every staff member to try and Achieve Balanced Success in a sustainable way.

Are there opportunities for career progression at Knight?

We are fortunate to have a large enough structure to support an individuals growth. We have clear and transparent expectations of performance at each level and regular performance appraisal and mentoring conversations so each person understands how they can achieve their career goals.

Does Knight support flexible working arrangements?

Our approach to flexible working is, well, flexible! Staff are encouraged to discuss their needs with their Manager to come up with a solution which works for their role and their lives. For some this means varied start and finish times and for others it can mean a hybrid working pattern. We believe in Achieving Balanced Success in a long term, sustainable way and flexible work practices can help our team to do this.

Perks and Benefits

What employee benefits does Knight offer?

We have great kitchen facilities with breakfast and snack options provided, we pay for team member’s phone bill, have access to shared parking on site, enjoy regular social functions (organised by our Fun Squad!) and a voluntary Wellness Program with gives staff access to the Employee Assistance Program (free counselling) as well as a range of activities which remind us and make it easier for us to look after ourselves. Recently this has included health checks, skin checks, massages, flu vaccination, seminars on sleep and longevity, a cooking demonstration and a therapy dog visit.

How does Knight support employees during busy periods (e.g., tax season)?

Some times of year are particularly busy and while we aim to be well resources enough that this does not cause the team undue stress, there are some immovable deadlines that we need to work with. During these times we offer massages to help relieve the stress as part of our Wellness Program, we socialise and have fun together to enhance cooperation and we have open conversations about how we can move workflow around to help each other. Team work and support are essential to get us all through those busy times.

Our Graduate Program

Our structured graduate program is for Graduate Accountants who join us. It is designed to help you transition from student to professional by providing you with the knowledge, skills and expertise in order to provide excellent service to our clients. Our graduate program offers:

We are committed to developing our people. From your initial induction program and series of internal and external seminars, you will develop your accounting, taxation skills as well as your personal development skills. We support both the CA and CPA program. We recognise that with work and study commitments, achieving a balanced lifestyle can be difficult. Therefore, we pay CA and CPA fees upfront so you can spend your salary on living life. We provide paid study leave and also offer flexible working arrangements two weeks prior to the exam so you’re studying during a time which works best for you.

We understand that starting a new job in a professional environment may appear daunting but our buddy system makes the transition seamless. Your buddy will assist you with any questions you have while you’re trying to find your feet. You will also be assigned a mentor who will provide direction and feedback during your graduate year. You will have quarterly feedback meetings so you discuss and monitor your development.

Working in a small team you will be exposed to the full spectrum of accounting techniques for a large range of clients. We focus on adding value for our clients through our analytical and strategic consulting. Initially you will be involved in managing our client’s compliance needs and as you learn more and understand our client’s situation you will also assist with analytical and consulting projects.

Our office is in Subiaco; close to the train station and great restaurants and cafes. We have a fully stocked kitchen where we provide free breakfast and snacks including fruit and nuts. Our staff are very friendly and enjoy spending time together. We have monthly morning teas and various social events during the year. We focus on work/life balance and offer flexible working arrangements so you can balance work and personal life. Our Wellness Program focuses on your health and wellbeing which often involves participating in fun charitable activities including fun runs, triathlons etc.

While we work hard, we enjoy having fun. We have a Fun Squad who organise various social events for all our staff including end of month drinks, summer BBQ’s, our Christmas party, team building activities, family days and end of financial year party.

Our graduate program provides you with the foundation to build your career with us. Promotions are not based on tenure; they are based on performance, attitude and adherence to our values.

Through our quarterly performance development reviews we provide guidance on how to progress to the next level in your career. We set objectives for you to achieve as well as training and mentoring in order to progress to become a trusted business adviser and leader. We have a 360 degree feedback process as we believe this provides a holistic approach to reviewing performance and culture fit.
